Vietnam's Tea Exports See Growth in Both Volume and Value

In the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam's tea exports increased in volume and value compared to last year. Vietnam's tea exports to various markets recorded significant growth. Notably, exports to the Chinese market surged by 249.5% in volume and 114.5% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's tea exports in October 2024 reached 14.46 thousand tons, with a value of $26.29 million, up 10.6% in volume and 13.7% in value compared to September 2024. Compared to October 2023, the volume increased by 20.2%, and the value rose by 19.9%. In the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 120.3 thousand tons of tea, valued at $211.9 million, marking a 28.3% increase in volume and a 30.3% rise in value compared to the same period in 2023.

The average export price of Vietnamese tea in October 2024 was $1,817.3 per ton, up 2.9% from September 2024 but down 0.3% compared to the same period in 2023. Over the first 10 months of 2024, the average export price of tea reached $1,761.6 per ton, an increase of 1.5% compared to the same period in 2023.

Notably, tea exports to the Chinese market experienced a significant surge in the first 10 months of 2024, reaching 11.4 thousand tons with a value of $16.3 million, representing a 249.5% increase in volume and a 114.5% increase in value compared to the same period in 2023.

However, tea exports to the Chinese market accounted for only 6.7% of the total export volume, which is insufficient to offset the decline in exports to major markets. The growing demand for tea imports in key global markets shows signs of recovery, a positive indicator for Vietnam's tea industry to boost exports further.
